Staff are surprisingly honest when completing staff satisfaction surveys and this information can add real value to planning. By way of example, one survey we conducted indicated that only 41% of the staff felt the full range of their skills and abilities were being used in their current role. This was in a company that operates in the Information Technology Sector where skills shortages are acute. This result prompted them to consider more internal candidates for vacant positions. A simple example perhaps, but think of the savings in time and cost against an external hire. The 'hidden' benefit to the staff in terms of motivation and recognition should not be underestimated either.
